The ICEHOTEL in Sweden is a truly breathtaking masterpiece of Ice Art and a spectacular setting for a short Northern Lights break. The ICEHOTEL is intricately redesigned every year and contains an Ice Chapel, Pillar Hall and ABSOLUTE ICEBAR. The highlight of any visit to this unique fairytale palace is spending the night is one of the hotel’s intricately designed ice suites.

There are also many optional activities available which will help to make every day you spend in Lapland extra special including; snowmobiling, husky safaris and a starlit dinner in the beautiful setting of the arctic.


Lapland is often illuminated by the striking Northern Lights which you may be lucky enough to see by simply stepping outside of the hotel. There is also the option of going on the hotel’s Snowmobile Safari in Search of the Northern Lights (additional cost), which will take you into the heart of Lapland’s wilderness where you will be more likely to witness the extraordinary Aurora Borealis. During your stay in Lapland you will be awed by the incredible ICEHOTEL and hopefully inspired by the awe-inspiring sight of the Northern Lights.

Day 1 - Arrive Ice Hotel Kiruna

Arrive Ice Hotel Kiruna Arrive at Kiruna Airport, where you will be met and transferred to the majestic ICEHOTEL which is set in the remote village of Jukkasjärvi. The ICEHOTEL is a unique glistening spectacle which is rebuilt every year using thousands of tons of snow and ice. On your arrival at the ICEHOTEL check-in and spend the rest of the evening relaxing and exploring your snow-covered surroundings. Tonight you will experience an arctic night in one of the ICEHOTEL’s unique snow rooms, where you will have a comfortable night’s sleep on a bed which is made of ice and covered by reindeer skins. During the night you will be kept snug and warm in a padded sleeping bag. The temperature inside the suite will be between -5°C and -8°C, which is almost warm compared to outside of the hotel, where temperatures can dip to -37°C.

Day 2 - Ice Hotel Kiruna

Ice Hotel Kiruna Wake up in the mystical setting of the ice suite and warm up with a drink of hot lingonberry juice which is brought to your bedside. After a delicious breakfast the day is yours to spend at leisure, why not make the most of the hotel’s amenities which include a sauna or take part in an optional activity? In the evening enjoy a delectable dinner and spend the evening relaxing in the ABSOLUTE ICEBAR. Don’t forget to journey outside and gaze into the sky where hopefully you will see a spectacular display of the Northern Lights. Tonight you will stay in one of the ICEHOTEL’s warm Kaamos (non ice) Rooms which are in an adjacent building.

Day 3 - Kiruna and Optional Excursions

Enjoy breakfast before setting off on the activity of your choice, at the Ice Hotel you can choose from an array of excursions ranging from exhilarating safaris on a snowmobile to more relaxing pastimes like snowshoe trekking. We recommend you pre-book the activities of your choice before you depart the UK to avoid disappointment. Spend the final night of your break enjoying a last walk through the picturesque setting of Lapland which hopefully will be illuminated by the Northern Lights. Overnight stay in a cosy Kaamos Room.

Day 4 - Depart Kiruna

Wake up and enjoy a final breakfast in Lapland before checking out from the ICEHOTEL. You will be transferred by minibus to Kiruna Airport where you will board a return flight to the UK.

Optional activities at the Ice Hotel:

  • Snowmobile Tour: 1.5 hour guided excursion through the ancient forest surrounding Jukkasjärvi;
  • Northern Lights Tour: 4 hour guided snowmobile excursion in search of the Northern Lights including dinner;
  • Wilderness Safari: 3 hour guided snowmobile excursion around the ancient forest that surrounds Jukkasjärvi including a traditional outdoor lunch;
  • Snowmobile Excursion including overnight stay: Guided two-day excursion including overnight stay at the wilderness camp;
  • Snowmobile Excursion in Moose Winter Grazing Land: A snowmobile ride to the heart of the winter grazing land of the moose. An exclusive excursion for a maximum 8 people per group including light lunch;
  • Wilderness Tour in Search of Moose: Excursion by minibus into the winter grazing lands of the moose with the possibility of photography (if conditions allow);
  • Star-lit dinner in the Wilderness Camp: Transfer by minibus to Esrange Space Station for a guided tour and a lecture about the Northern Lights. Then on to a wilderness camp nearby, beautifully located next to a lake. While the chef prepares dinner, wine will be served and we will observe the sky with binoculars. A three course meal awaits and afterwards we return by bus to the Ice Hotel;
  • Skis or Snowshoes with guide: Choose skis or snowshoes before going off into the forest surrounding the Ice Hotel. Includes guide, equipment, coffee/tea and homemade cake;
  • Ice Driving: After a theoretical review of a modern car's security systems, you will get to drive a car at an ice track under supervision of trained rally instructors. Push yourself and your car to the limit on the icy rally course. Includes coffee/tea and homemade cake. Minumum age 18 years and a driving license valid in Sweden is required;
  • Dog Sledding Excursion: 1.5 hour comfortable and silent sledge ride into the wilderness. Includes a stop en-route for coffee/tea and cake by the cosy warmth of a camp fire;
  • Dog Sled Tour including Kennel Visit: This excursion includes a two-course outdoor lunch and concludes with a visit to the kennels. Duration is approximately 4 hours;
  • Raidu-Sami Culture and Reindeer Drive: Get to know the everyday life and culture of the Sami. See what it's like to drive a sleigh pulled by reindeer. Traditional Sami food prepared over a campfire in a kåta (a Sami-style tent);
  • Ice Sculpting: Using sharp tools and guided by professional Ice Hotel artists, you will be guided into the magical world of ice sculpture (minimum age 12 - approx 2-3 hours);
