An exhilarating Northern Lights adventure holiday set in the pristine Arctic wilderness of Iso-Syöte, in northern Finland. During this truly memorable adventure week you will take part in an array of arctic activities including husky sledding, reindeer sleigh rides and a snowmobile safari in search of the Northern Lights. The location of Iso-Syöte, which is just below the Arctic Circle, means that you will have a good chance of seeing the magnificent Northern Lights illuminate Finland’s night sky.
This resort is perfect for groups, families or couples and provides both hotel and log cabin accommodation. Just outside the hotel you will find a gentle fell area with 75 miles of well maintained trails which are perfect for both beginners and cross country skiers. The Iso-Syöte also boasts 12 downhill ski slopes, a snowboard street, half pipes and a snow tube run - where you can slide down the slope in a large rubber tyre.
Day 1 -
Arrive Finland

On arrival at Kuusamo, Oulu or Rovaniemi airport you will be met and then transferred to your luxurious accommodation at the Iso-Syöte. After check-in collect your arctic outdoor clothing from reception, which is provided for the duration of your stay. Spend the rest of the day exploring the regions glistening snow-covered landscape. Tonight you will hopefully get your first glimpse of the stunning Northern Lights, which are also known as the Aurora Borealis.

Day 2 -
Snowmobile Safari into the Wilderness

Enjoy a delicious breakfast and then prepare for the first thrilling adventure of your action packed break - exhilarating snowmobile safari! Today you will be guided across frozen lakes and through Finland’s snow-covered fells on a truly unforgettable excursion. During this adventure into the unspoilt wilderness of Iso-Syöte there will be a break where you can rest and warm up with a coffee by an open camp fire. Then you will hop back on to your snowmobile for your return journey to the hotel. During the evening warm up in a sauna and hopefully enjoy a front row seat of a spectacular Northern Lights display.

Day 3 -
Snowmobiling and Husky Safari

Today you will enjoy a morning packed with phenomenal winter activities, starting with a snowmobile journey to a husky farm. On your arrival you will find a team of enthusiastic huskies eager to take you on an incredible 3¾ mile sledge ride, through glistening untouched scenery. When you return to the farm you will be served a delicious drink of coffee by an open fire in a kota (traditional small cabin). After a short rest you will return to the hotel on your snowmobile. Spend the rest of the day relaxing in the resorts swimming pool or enjoy an invigorating sauna. Later tonight be sure to gaze into the sky where you will hopefully be treated to the light show of a lifetime.

Day 4 -
Free day and Evening Snowmobile Safari in search of the Northern Lights

Spend today at leisure, perhaps you want to relax or if you feeling energetic you can explore the hotel’s nearby ski, snowboarding and snow-tubing slopes. In the evening you will go on what will no doubt be of the highlights of your break – a snowmobile safari in search of the Northern Lights. The landscape of the arctic transforms into a shimmering snow kingdom which will be a truly epic setting for witnessing the Northern Lights.

Day 5 -
Snowshoe Hiking
|
After breakfast you are free to spend the morning relaxing or enjoying an activity of your choice. During the afternoon you will have the opportunity to witness spectacular scenery on a snowshoe hike. During the 2-2½ hour excursion there will be breaks were you can warm up with hot drinks and plenty of time for photographs.

Day 6 -
Ice Fishing
|
Today you will be transferred by car to a nearby frozen lake where you can try the traditional finnish pastime Ice Fishing. A friendly guide will teach you how to drill your own hole and set your line and rod. The rest of the evening is at your leisure, spend your time soaking up the atmosphere of the hotel’s bar or relaxing in your cosy accommodation.

Day 7 -
Free day
|
Your final day at Iso-Syöte can be spent hitting the slopes or enjoying some of the resort's optional activities, which you experienced earlier in the week. Spend your final evening taking a walk through the epic setting of Iso-Syöte, which will hopefully be lit up by the Northern Lights.

Day 8 -
Return to the UK

After breakfast you will be transferred to your airport for a return flight to the UK.

- Hotel Iso-Syöte
Ideally located on top of a 1,400 foot fell, this friendly and relaxed hotel offers fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding area and easy access to the adjacent slopes. All 30 double rooms offer private facilities and satellite TV with non-smoking and allergy rooms available. After a day’s winter activities the swimming pool and saunas are great places to relax. The main restaurant offers excellent meals and dance music. There is also a pleasant lounge bar and a small nightclub.
Cabins
A very popular choice is to stay in one of the hotel’s traditional rustic cabins located 300 yards from the main building. Built from silver pine logs, these cosy cabins are usually covered in snow during winter creating a true picture postcard atmosphere for an authentic Lapland experience. The cabins sleep up to four people with a double bedroom, living room with sofa beds and open fireplace, sauna, shower, toilet, porch and kitchen with crockery, refrigerator, coffee maker and oven. Guests can use all the facilities of the hotel.
Please note that the order of events may vary and all activities are subject to suitable weather conditions which are beyond our control. Children under the age of 15 are not allowed to drive a snowmobile according to Finnish law and will travel in snowmobile-pulled sleighs.
